Finding Rainbows

Hello again dear readers.....it's been a grey old stormy january week here, with only a tiny bit of sunshine.........but we had bright quilts, fabrics and flowers to cheer us up on the gloomy days.....

.........lots of flowers on the kitchen window sill, and crocus bulbs peeking through........

.........and fabric rainbows to enjoy for more colour therapy............this is my rainbow quilt made from tilda fabrics.....the pattern is in my etsy shop link in sidebar and you can buy kits for it from gotkwilts.com

.........or just use up all your pretty tilda scraps as i did.......it's a great scrap buster project and fun to use the rainbow as a guide for choosing fabrics......

..........the quilting is a circular spiral design which was done by longarm machine for me.......

...........playing with colourful fabrics and looking at paintings, flowers and quilts really helps me through the dark grey days at this time of year.............

............they are a mix of many tilda collections, old and newer and i love how the tilda fabrics always work together whichever collection they are from.........

.........and always love some pink ones............

........so glad of tulips all through january too, always plenty in the greengrocer's or supermarket before the garden ones come into flower much later........

Sweet Hearts

Hello again lovely readers........lots of hearts stitched on things here today......beginning with my vintage heart cushion.......

.......it's very soft both in colours and textures.......the quilting is by hand and the hearts are appliquéd by hand too.....

.........the fabrics are a mixture from my scrap basket.....

..........more little scraps were used for a new sweetheart pincushion.........the little rosebuds are some of my favourite prints........

..........here it is on my work table with lots of cotton reels and buttons.......

..........below is the original version along with a cross stitched love note.....all these designs have patterns in my etsy shop link in sidebar........

............romance.......valentine's day.......hearts and flowers........i love them all year round personally ;)......

........we have had some chilly walks this week (hubby goes for walks in any weather, but i'm more of a fairweather walker)..........amazing clouds over the estuary (the coastline in the distance is wales)......

.........luckily we've had some cheerful blue skies on lots of days and sunshine too.........

............below is a beautiful hebe shrub growing in our garden giving us flowers all year round.....

Pretty in Pink

Hello lovely readers..........we are in the pink today with lots of sweet pink makes for the coming valentine season.......

...........beginning with a postage stamp pincushion made with small scraps of pretty pink prints left over from another project.......these are all moda fabrics......apart from the backing which is a tilda fabric....

..........with an added red wooden heart button.........

.....and a piece of ribbon saying *love* from this reel i've had for a while.........

..........we have also been enjoying my pink scrappy vintage hearts quilt...........

..........this is a checkerboard quilt with tiny pink hearts stitched on the white squares.......

..........it uses many of my favourite scraps and i love to see them all whenever i get out this quilt again......

.........collecting and saving fabric scraps is something i've always done and using them has often inspired me........and of course there's no waste if you use up scraps :)..........

..........below is my pink vintage charm quilt along with the pixie girl........

.........i hope january has started well for you.....i have been enjoying the quiet times, the peaceful days of sewing and making soup, tidying away christmas things, catching up with household tasks and making plans for the year ahead......and reading a lot too......i did a bit of gardening but it was very wet and very cold so all i've done outside this week is tidy up the greenhouse and neaten up the tiny auricula plants.....

Happy New Year

Hello again dear readers....here i am back again after a lovely family christmas time........

.....in january when the days are often grey and gloomy i like to sew with pretty colourful floral fabrics.....this is my pinwheels quilt which i've just finished hand quilting........

.......it was almost complete before christmas, so i just had to stitch a little bit more and add the striped binding.........am trying to get to the bottom of my to-be-quilted pile right now :)........

........i also began a new floral, colourful vintage charm quilt using gorgeous richly patterned tilda fabrics from my stash and scraps.......

...........sewing and drinking coffee at the start of a new year.......perfect.........

..........colour is such an important part of my design life and my life in general..........

..........using paint or fabrics or threads to create colourful work on dark days is so cheering for me and always has been.....

..........and the scent of flowers is also a big joy for me at this time of year.....the hyacinths planted in this dairy bowl and in smaller bowls too fill the kitchen with the scent of spring.........

..........love them all and the perfection of each tiny flower........

..........there are blue ones to come too........and lots of other bulbs just poking through to look forward to as well.........
