May Time

Hello dear readers from a beautiful warm and sunny bit of the uk..........it's been a lovely week with plenty of sunshine and a lot of outdoor time for us......
..........this flowery little pincushion was made with some leftover scraps of lovely liberty fabric (betsy, my favourite)........the pattern is my red and white postage stamp pincushion in my etsy shop link in sidebar......
...........below is an old bookcase which i painted recently in farrow and ball cooking apple green.....
.......then i started stacking quilts on it......
...........love all my old flowery quilts, especially at this time of year.........and the seed packets are being made as little cards to hang as a garland.....will photograph them soon......when i find where i put all the little pegs ;)
........all the seedlings from the greenhouse have either been pricked out or planted now so the wooden seed trays are ready to be stored away again.......
.........below is a vintage watering can from a brocante fair, and a vintage bucket left here by the house's previous owners over 25 years ago and still being planted up each year by me with different things....this time it has love in a mist seeds sprinkled in it......
..........we had an afternoon at peckforton castle in the cheshire countryside for a friend's birthday afternoon tea......it was a lovely time and such perfect weather........
........may time is so beautiful in the countryside........cow parsley and leafy trees, roses and blossom....
............below is a view of our garden with the wisteria and rose intertwining on the patio trellis, and beyond the white picket fence of the cottage garden........
..........just outside my sewing room window are the roses and wisteria....such delicious scents.....

Flowers and Quilts

Hello again dear readers......today's post is full of flowers (and flowery quilts too)........i love this time of year when flowers come into bloom and every day there is something new to find in the garden......
......this little quilt was made from bright scraps of floral and fruit fabrics and dotted with appliqué butterflies.....it's called the butterfly park picnic quilt and the pattern is available in my etsy shop link in sidebar.......
......we've been outdoors so much over the past week.......enjoying the warmth and fresh air and sunshine after what felt like a long winter.......lovely to have picnics again and to enjoy a cup of tea each afternoon in the garden again.......
.........the first roses opened last week and i enjoyed some in my sewing room.......
..........and here are some of the pretty pink aquilegia which often self seed so we never know where they might pop up, but they are always welcome here......
.........we had a bit of garden inspiration for the sunday quilt stacks post i did on instagram last week.....
............this little greengate jug is perfect for garden posies.........
.........in the cottage garden lots of plants are almost in bloom, and this david austin rose is looking so pretty and covered in buds.......
...........one more of the wisteria, fading but fabulous still.........
..........and the beehive (really a composter) in the *little* garden, with pots of daisies, and some rosemary cuttings.........
..........a week full of flowers and fresh air and some sewing, family time and a good book to read is just what i like.......

Coronation Celebrations

Hello again dear readers.......we are having a lovely week after the exciting and uplifting coronation weekend.......here is my red white and blue coronation dresser......complete with staffordshire dogs....king charles spaniels of course.....
..........it was so nice to see happy cheerful people enjoying this wonderful occasion.......and it all went so amazingly well.....i love the tradition and pageantry of these royal occasions and the beautiful textiles, costumes and embroidery is always a treat to see.....
..........my King Charles III coronation keepsake was on display.......
...........now i think i need to sew one more for my royal collection....but in the meantime here are lots of red white and blue quilts and a trip around the world cushion......all patterns are in my etsy shop link in sidebar......
.........just a few more on this theme....monty and the sunday quilt stack.......
........on top of the little cupboard in my studio........

.......and now the garden is really coming in to bloom.......suddenly the wisteria has begun to flower and tumble over the back of the house......below is a view outside my sewing room window.......

.........it wouldn't be maytime without a walk down a country lane bordered with the wafting creamy lace flowers of cow parsley (as we call it....though i do prefer its other prettier name of queen anne's lace)......here is a bunch of it below with my spring nine patch quilt........

May Days

Hello dear readers.....happy may everyone........beginning here with some beautiful apple blossom which i photographed yesterday on a lovely countryside day out.....
..........here is my old favourite quilt called gather the flowers........
........designed using lots of different techniques including patchwork, english paper piecing, appliqué, embroidery, hand stitching and hand quilting.......the pattern is in my etsy shop link in sidebar......
............and i have been gathering some flowers this past week as so much has come into bloom.....
..........at the weekend my daughter sarah and i went to the little brocante fair and had a lovely time looking at lots of vintage treasures........below is a pile of quilts and other vintage textiles......
.........and in the background behind these blue coffee pots three very patient king charles spaniels waited quietly.......
...........inspired by vintage style, and the coronation which takes place tomorrow......is a new version of my little teatime pincushion.........vintage and patriotic in theme with lewis and irene royal fabrics and a different word tag.....the original pattern is in my etsy shop.......
...........a view we enjoyed on our country walk yesterday........so peaceful and quiet......
..........and such gorgeous pink and white apple blossom.......
.........i do love an orchard scene........one of my favourite things..........
...........we are getting ready for tomorrow's coronation, with bunting and decorations, cakes, scones, bubbly, a street party..........and my royal quilt of course........and a big bunch of scented lilacs and bluebells in a striped jar.........
