A Week in October

Hello again dear readers...............here are some pictures from my week......first the little cupboard in my studio filled with autumnal things...........
...............love all the autumn decorations and this year i'm making black and white gingham birds....more about them soon.....we have lots of pumpkins, toadstools and apples and some paper craft items from magazine work i've done..............
..............the pumpkin quilt is very cosy on this bed............along with the tumbler pillow.....
 ..............more pumpkins.............
..............and i've been working out a new patchwork block inspired by the victorian tiled floor in our home's entrance porch below........
..............the tiles are over 150 years old and still intact....so hard wearing and made to last......
...............just had to show you this little posy of snowberries too as it's that time of year again.....my lovely eldest daughter bought me these....she calls them sprinkleberries......i've been told they are called lilly pilly in new zealand and another name for them is monkey apple!......they are so pretty whatever name they have....especially the pink ones.....
..............on a cool atmospheric october afternoon hubby and i visited the walled city of chester......it's not far from where we live and we have lots of memories of going there all our lives.......
................this is the bear and billet inn built in 1664 and described as 'the finest 17th century timber framed town house in chester'.......we used to go there as students....i did my art foundation course at a college in chester for a year before i went on to manchester to do my degree course....four years of art and design and i loved it all....
.........walking by the river dee in the groves.........the bandstand has musicians in the summer.....and there are boats for river cruises....trees just turning autumnal shades and lots of people including many tourists enjoying the special atmosphere.......i think i love october days more and more :)....
..............thank you for visiting me here lovely readers and for the kind comments you leave me......wishing you all a very happy october week ahead and plenty of bright cosy days and crafty inspirations.......back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Faux snowberries would be a nice change from flowers only, and look good on a summer straw hat. Your tile floor is beautiful.

Such a lovely scrumptiously pumpkiny post!! Just love those little snowberries! 💕
It has been many years since I visited Chester but I do remember it as a very beautiful city.
Lovely to see bunny in her cosy pink cardie.
Happy new week my friend,

Are those snowberries real???? I've not seen or heard of them before. They are beautiful! I love the alternative names, as well. And I love how you can take your favorite colors and make them work as autumn decor. No changing out the whole house, just a few touches and it all works. How clever of you! I'm just a teeny bit jealous that you can visit a town with a pub THAT OLD nearby. We don't really know old here in the USA (comparatively speaking.) Thanks for yet another lovely, inspiring post that brightened my Monday.

Ohhh.. I loved this post, Helen! I agree that you make Autumn pretty in shades of color that are YOU. We have snowberries here but they are all white, no pink at all.. I love yours! Thank you for sharing your amazing tile entry.. I love it and I can see why it would inspire you to quilt. And those historic buildings.. what I wouldn't give to be able to go inside one one of those.

Happy Autumn!!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I love that tiled floor. No wonder you were inspired. If only things these days were meant to least so long. I'm a fan of historic buildings, architecture with character that tells a story and holds memories. Thanks for sharing. Always lovely to see your pretty makes. Have a good week.

I just read your post and realised we trod a similar pathway! I did my art foundation in Dorset but then moved north and did my textile BA degree at Manchester 1988-91, seems sooooooo long ago now! I specialised in embroidery.....I wonder when you were there?
Lovely catching up with you Helen xxxxxxxxxx

I really enjoyed reading all of this today and also your wonderful pictures of all of your adventures. I love the old buildings. We really need to take good care of our old stuff.
Those berries are sweet. I think my oldest daughter had those in her wedding bouquet heehee
I love the new block, and I love the apple quilt.
Stay cozy and healthy in this weather change.

I love your blog, Helen — it’s so inspiring! I’m hand piecing a lap quilt at the moment — first time I’ve done the running stitch piecing as previously I’d done English paper piecing and machine piecing. It’s slow but therapeutic! My daughter and her family live in Chester and I love visiting them. I hope to move up there when circumstances allow. At the moment I live in Cambridgeshire and enjoy my spring garden but the summers we’ve had lately are so dry that the garden starts dying back in July and it’s so disheartening. I look forward to being in the wetter Northwest, your garden and home are beautiful and you are the queen of style!

P.S. the quilt blocks I am hand piecing are the Farmer’s Wife blocks — not bright and colourful like yours — just duck egg blue and cream to go with my sitting room colours
