Autumn Fruits

I love this time of year especially for the natural treasures to be found in the woods and gardens, orchards and hedgerows round about...........there are berry stems in the shops too and the snowberries in the jug above were a gift from my daughter......... i've so enjoyed taking pictures of them, they look so pretty with their pale pink blush....
..............a fabric apple in a pretty pink and white bowl in the september sunshine..........
............i made a couple of apples using the pretty red and white little sweetheart fabric from andover fabrics.........the green leaves were scraps from my stash..........
.............and for the first time after a lifetime of baking apple crumble every autumn i tried making apple crisp....it was delicious :)..........there is a recipe here and i am sure my lovely readers across the pond will have their own favourite recipe :)
...........it differs from our usual apple crumble by having oats, nutmeg and cinnamon among the ingredients and a bit more butter...
............always on the hunt for interesting autumn specimens of the berry and mushroom kind......
..........these berries and rosehips were all from our garden and i made the cute little mushroom from a sweet pattern by vechernie posidelki here...........
..........i finished the new mushroom pillow and added some surface stitchery this time and some tiny buttons to the original applique and patchwork design...you can find the pattern for this in my book modern vintage gifts..............
.............more berry inspiration....drawing them onto cream fabric ready for some embroidery....
...............last week we had a huge storm here and the gales blew so many leaves and fruits off the trees......below is a picture of the path to my favourite cottage round here (would love to live in it one day) showing all the windfall apples and pears the next day.........
.............our own garden was covered in leaves and bits of twig and bark from the trees......but the flowerbed near the house was unaffected and my little hollyhocks are flowering!.......i got the seeds for these dwarf hollyhocks last christmas and grew them in the greenhouse....so happy that they are healthy plants and growing well now.....
............another autumn gift below.....this is one of our garden side doors...the one we don't use much...and it is adorned with nature's leaf garlands this week.........so pretty and colourful.....
.............thank you for visiting me here dear readers and sharing these little moments of mine........it is lovely to hear from you and so kind of you to take the time to leave me a comment, but also just lovely to know that you are reading along too..............wishing you happy autumn days...or spring ones if you are on the other side of the world (i do enjoy getting a spring flower fix by visiting my lovely blog friends on the other side of the world!).............back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The weather has certainly changed in the UK. I look forward to seeing what you do with your pretty embroidery. You are always a sources of inspiration.
I've done a mushroom cushion I just need to find something nice to border it.

My husband nor I had heard of snowberries, they are fascinating and lovely! Your pumpkins and fall decor are also lovely. Sad about the storm you had, we had a hurricane south of us in North Carolina, which caused tornados in our area. I stayed in our laundry room as it's the only room in the house with no windows, it was rather scary because my cell phone was exploding with warnings of tornadoes, about every 15 minutes, for over an hour. Glad one didn't come our way but very sad for the gentleman who lost his life trying to get his employees to a safe place :( Meteorologists are tracking another storm in the Atlantic, I'm praying it goes away!

Helen,
How could it be possible that each of your blog posts tops the last one? This one is just the berries! Speaking of berries, I have never seen snowberries, but they are the sweetest things, and the little strawberry pitcher is perfect for them. I love the fabric apples, and want to make some. The forth photo with the apple in the flower rimmed plate may be my next favorite in this post, or maybe the leaf garland over the garden door, or just maybe the whole post!! And I still love the square pincushion, and want to make one of them, too. Yikes!!
You are once again inspiring me, so I must get busy and finish the knitted and felted bags I am working on so I can start another project.:)
Thank you for sharing.

So enjoyed today’s post with beautiful thoughts and photos. The garlands by the garden side doors are lovely. Thanks for sharing the Apple Crisp recipe. I think I will leisurely enjoy Modern Vintage Gifts this morning. Best wishes for a wonderful week......from (still in the 100°s) Phoenix AZ.

Gorgeous autumn post. Love the apples. And all the deep red colours.there were always snowberries in my mum's garden, lovely to see them here in your pretty jug. Crumbles and apple crisps, just right for the season. I also like Mary Stearns apple cake, recipe on Sarah Ravens site, has hazel nuts in, can be a pudding too.xxx

Your pictures are lovely and the apples are cute as pie:) The pears would make a yummy pie too, just in case you finish up all of your apple crisp.

Such a shame about all the pears and apples. Your apple crisp sounds wonderful on a cold fall day, as we are now having. Love these cooler mornings - and socks and sweater days :)! Love all your sweet pics and cute mushroom and fabric apples!

Helen, we have snowberries here but they are much smaller than your gorgeous big rosy ones! How pretty they are! I also love the last image of the crimson leaves on your white gate. I love your patchwork apples and mushroom.. how wonderful it is that you are creating things that last forever in the image of things so shortlived. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

It was lovely to take a wander through your pretty photos of stitches and beautiful flowers. You inspire me to want to make an apple crisp which I have not done for a while. That would help me make good use of the less than pretty apples we picked off our trees the other day. Happy week to you! xx

The weather is slowly changing here, too. I made the first apple crisp of the season on Friday to take to a friend's house for dinner. I made a creme anglaise to serve with it - so creamy and delicious.
What a wind storm! Your autumn apples fit in perfectly with the season.

I haven't heard of snowberries, they are so pretty - you have such a talent for bringing nature into your trademark colour palette and transforming it into something wonderful - who would think a few little berries could make such a lovely little vignette.

Berries are a favorite motif element next to acorn, pinecones and holly. Beautiful work
