October Crochet

It is grey and damp here and the evenings are dark and chilly........the perfect time to have a crochet crush again..........the yarn in these photos is some i bought earlier this year and i did show a quick peek of it at the time on here, but i had no idea what i wanted to make with it then, i just liked having it to look at.....
..............it is very soft and cosy and ideal for making autumn and winter projects...........
................at first i just made some simple granny squares, which i still love and which was why i learnt to crochet a couple of years ago....i do love colourful granny squares and the effect of them all joined together :).............the grannies sat in the colourful paper gift bag along with the yarn most of the summer as i worked on other, bigger projects.........
............then i found them during my sewing room tidy up and made them into a cushion.......

...........and i began making some wrist warmers with the leftover yarn..........i liked the colours and the speed of making something small for a change from huge blankets.............

...............my new wristies are very cosy and i am looking forward to making more in different stripes and maybe a scarf too............after a day working on sewing projects, at the computer and drawing, it is a nice change to settle down on the sofa with some soft pretty yarn and a crochet hook.........

..............i have to make sure i don't leave any balls of yarn or partly made crochet around at the moment though, as miss molly the fluffy puppy has developed a huge yarn crush too......
.............when she sees a ball of wool she gets a glint in her eye and lunges for it, carrying it off to de-construct somewhere if she gets the chance............so i always keep it in a basket or bag and when i've finished a spell of working on it whisk it up high where she can't reach........luckily molly likes to doze all evening at the moment so my crochet time is safe.......
..............bag filled with (hidden) yarn..........this bag is in my book *simple sewn gifts*..........
.........i brought some autumn leaves and berries in from the garden to look pretty this week.......
............the last of the tiny pink roses are blooming and the trees are turning into those lovely autumn shades......such a colourful sight, 'where every leaf is a flower'.....................
............thank you for coming to see me here, dear readers, and thank you for the lovely comments you leave for me, i so enjoy reading them all.............wishing you a wonderful crafty week wherever you are in the world, and if you are in northern climes, keep cosy :)...........back soon xxxxxxxxxxxx

Gosh, what a gorgeous burst of colour on this drab and dreary day Helen! I adore your cushion. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE granny squares. However, your wristies are divine. I am partial to the odd one, two or fifty pairs of wrist warmers, and these are beautiful in those colours.

I'm loving your jug of Autumnal goodness too. So, so pretty.

Have a super week

You have a way with words too besides fabric and yarn. Your descriptions are like poetry.
I love the way you pulled in some gray on the pillow...it gives it a totally "fall" look yet still so pretty and colorful. Genius! I love Rooster yarns but a bit pricey for me to order from over there but if I get my heart set I may have to anyway. The colors are different there than here. I can get Debbie Bliss here and that's great. It took me awhile to figure it out.....why I loved projects from "across the pond" so much and then I would get yarn here in approximately the same colors and wouldn't like it as much. It seems here the colors are too bold for me and yours are color-filled but softer and more muted. So I am definitely a fan of your yarns there. I love Deramores too as they are fast, efficient and not bad on shipping prices.
Your flowers are lovely and I need to bring in some Fall leaves and berries...they're just now starting to turn here.
Your mitts are cute and love the stripes.
I have so many outside things to do while the weather holds but once I get my maintenance outside done I will be curling up with lots more yarn! In fact, I think I will place an order today so it will be "ready" for me! LOL! So good to visit you as always. Thank you for your blog.

Helen, it is lovely to visit you and scroll back and enjoy your posts I missed while traveling [and recovering from traveling :-)] As always I find myself trying to soak in your wonderful gift of combining colors as well as creating pleasing forms. You continue to inspire me! I am knitting a bunny for my 7 yr old grandson [his request!] from some wonderfully soft brown Alpaca yarn I bought in Missouri. Love pats to fluffy little Miss Molly Dog xxx

What yummy yarn Helen, so bright and cheerful. It's a good job you have a bag to keep it out of reach from Molly, I am sure she brings a whole new approach to crafting bless her. It's good that you can still enjoy the last of your roses from the garden. Keep cosy and carry on with that beautiful crochet xx

Hello dear Helen! I must tell you that I love your pillow cover in pretty hued granny squares. And I particularly love how you've mixed squares, but how also they are symmetrical! Bravo! What a treat for the eye! Love your wrist covers, too. I need to make some of those. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

What pretty early autumn colours. They remind me of berries. The little pillow is beautiful. I love the display of late roses and autumn greenery and your bag is lovely and doesn't look too challenging for a beginner like me.
Your posts never fail to inspire me :-)

Very pretty colours - love the wristies. We had to rescue yarn the other day - strung out from the garage into the lounge, round the chair, round the table twice - what a mess, and Snowy is not a puppy any more - but likes to take any chance he gets!

The yarns are just lovely and I agree, it's nice to get comfy on the couch and continue with more creativity. I get tired from sitting at the computer too and find stitching in my big chair very relaxing & a good change. Your post is very nice as usual and the granny square pillow is perfect! xxxsusie

I always love the wool you choose.
You always have bright colours and I imagine you always live in summer.
But reality is different. It is dark and we have wind and rain here too. But great time to knit!

I love the pillows and the wrist warmers. I have some yarn that I am anxious to make some hand/wrist warmers out of, but I am trying to finish a WIP at the moment. I actually have several to finish! I did a craft room clean out. yikes!

Helen, your yarn is beautiful as always! Can you tell me where you found the instructions for the wrist Warmers please? I'd like to try them. Thank you for your lovely blog so full of inspirations.

Your house must be so beautiful filled with all of your crafting pretties everywhere. x

Both the crochet granny square cushion and the wristwarmers are so pretty. It is nice to be able to finish off a quick project in a few sessions as opposed to chipping away at larger projects when you can get a bit demoralised!
I'm the same and tend to crochet mainly in the cooler months. The autumn foliage looks good and reminds me to go and forage.
Puppies do love a bit of yarn don't they? My dog likes batting around cotton reels (like a cat!) but luckily doesn't chew or unravel them!
Happy crafting Helen and have a great weekend.
Gill xx

Hello dear Helen,

Lovely crocheting again, that pillow case is simply beautiful! And I can so see Miss Molly chasing your yarn balls around :) you definitely need a bag or two to keep them save from her little paws!

Happy crocheting!
