When i arrived back from our trip to the seaside i got on with hand quilting this scrappy summer quilt, and after just a few evenings it was done :) ...i quilted it round the edge of each square and then diagonally across the middle of the squares..........i chose a red and white striped binding for it, inspired by the striped awnings of the flower market in nice........
..............i love the prints in this quilt, as well as the floral feel and the bright fruit appliques and i liked how the red and white striped binding brought it all together.............
.................the backing is a gorgeous pam kitty picnic fabric with cherries and roses on yellow......
.............i love all kinds of quilts and a huge variety of patterns, but i know i will always want to make ones with simple squares (and maybe a bit of embellishment) every now and then......
..............i enjoy using text prints as a decorative feature too, and love how they look with a colourful image appliqued on top, like the cherries below which are sewn onto a patch of sew mama sew fabric.........
............i took pictures of this quilt all around the house, as usual following the best light, as well as avoiding bright sunlight..........here it is on an old chair in front of a book case on the top floor of our old house............
...........sometimes i like to add buttons to my quilts, and i had a little look at these fruit buttons from just another button company to see if any would look nice on my new quilt.............
...........i decided just to add the lemon slice to the patch which had lemons appliqued on it.......
...............here is daisy whirling and twirling with the new quilt.........the children use the quilts and the crochet blankets to make houses and tents and to wrap up their toys and each other :).............
...............we thought the chicken might look pretty with the quilt too...........it is a money box and full of loose change at the moment so is very heavy............
.............just as my summer quilt is finished we are feeling autumn in the air............the weekend was a mix of autumn coolness, strong winds, grey days and some sunshine..........we had a special outing to a lovely garden where i took this photo of the golden dahlias............
..............and i will leave you with this photo of the gorgeous zinnias which have been brightening up the cutting garden recently...........though a snail or two have been secretly munching on them over the weekend and the effect was not a good one..............
..............thank you for visiting me today, lovely readers, it is so good to see you...........and thank you too for taking the time to leave a comment, it is always a treat to hear from you too :).............i hope you have a wonderful week ahead, wherever in the world you may be..............back soon xxxxxxxxx

Hello Helen! What a simply beautiful quilt. I love it!! I really like your choice of the lemon slice button it adds a little extra dimension. What beautiful flowers too... you are clever to plant so many different types so that you have blooms to cut all year round! :) xx
What a beautiful quilt xx
Hi Helen, the finished quilt is gorgeous and the buttons look edible. Your darling grandchildren must love having a never ending source of wonderful "tent" covers to use for their play. No boring old blankets in your house! Have a lovely week too, we are off on a little break over the bank holiday...it will be so very welcome xx

Beautiful quilt Helen, I too love squares and guess what I have some squares ready to sew, can you believe it, not that I know what I'm doing!
The buttons are a lovely addition and indeed the quilt has a very Marche de Fleurs feel about it.
Grrrr to snails!

Your newest quilt is lovely, Helen. I especially like the way your little helper shows it off. Quilts that are loved are used - the best kind.
Summer is winding down here, too, but I'm not quite ready to let it go. Lovely dahlias and zinnias - those snails - ugh.
Your quilt is quite stunning !
And those dahlias... They are soooo gorgeous !
As for the weather, the same here... autumn is approaching, one can feel it. Too early for me, I would like some more summer weeks !
Your quilt is so pretty! I, too, love the simple patchwork style. The appliqué you added makes it all the more special. Have a happy week!

Lovely quilt - brings back happy memories when you say the children build dens with them, as mine did too :) ahh...
I always love the pretty colors you use in every project. And the small details make things special! I would twist and twirl, too with something so beautiful! What a cute photo! Hugs, Diane
I always love the colors you choose , this quilt makes me happy :)
Hello my friend, Helen! I am home from my camping trip and you'll have to show your husband my sailing pictures. We're on Sunfish which are only 14 feet long, but we sure have fun on them. What kind of boat did your hubby race on? I would love to see a photo of him racing on his boat! Love your quilt and your flower pillow.. must make one someday.
((hugs)), Teresa :-)
I just love squares. And the way you pick and put fabrics together is always a treat for the eyes.
Hi Helen your quilt is so beautiful i love the colours ,your work really is inspirational xxx
My goodness, can you hear that?? It's my jaw dropping to the floor. What am absolutely delightful quilt. Your little model looks so cute.I adore your work
Hi Helen,
Your quilt looks lovely! I hope my Zinnia's will look as lovely as yours. They are still tiny, but you never know they may still give me some flowers.
Happy week!

I think tiny squares make for a lovely little quilt. Your family is lucky to have so many handmade items to use. Have a great rest of the week. Tammy
It is gorgeous Helen, and I love the little buttons too, they make a great touch!! xx
Your projects are always so lovely <3 The handquilting adds such a special look to the quilt - already it has a 'vintage-y' feel to it.
Smiles, DianeM :)
It's a gorgeous quilt Helen, so cheerful and pretty! The red striped binding sets all the lovely fabrics off a treat, and the backing is so pretty.
Been feeling very autumnal here too this last week or so, I hope that's not it for summer!
Have a good week Helen
Gill xx
What a beautiful little quilt! I love a simple patchwork quilt -- probably one of my favorite kinds of quilts. And the pretty little touches you've added all around -- just perfect!
Helen, your pretty quilt truly is a Summer Quilt. How beautifully it translates summer colors and imagery with your talented light touch!
It's grand to have each of these photographs, as each one shows something particularly great about what you've created.
Many thanks. xo
I love your simple squared quilts too. The colours, patterns and photos are all scrumptious. Love Patx

Wow, that binding really stands out beautifully. It starts me to wondering what a striped frame might look like on some paintings.
I'm glad you had a good time away.
Yet another beautiful quilt, Helen. I like how you tied it all together with the red and white binding. Your inspiration for it makes for a good story too! Sharing the things that inspire you helps me look at things around me with fresh eyes and I appreciate that.
I hope your week is a happy one.

Oh, I just love how your quilt turned out!! So beautiful!! Love what a sweet touch the appliqué fruit give it!! Have a lovely week Helen! xo Heather
Aahh such a beautiful quilt Helen, and your dahlias are toooo beautiful!
A very pretty quilt Helen, you have been busy.
Okay...that is just the most perfect summer quilt! Summery fabrics and colors and buttons. I have to go find some "textual" (is that a word?) prints and vintage image fabrics not only for fussy cutting for hexies but for a great visual interest in quilts. I too am very fond of the old fashioned utilitarian style of patchwork although I've not forgotten your Farmer's Wife blocks...loved those.
I hope Fall is coming as it is so hot here...100's in Fahrenheit.
Your little granddaughter is so sweet even from behind...what a good grandma you are to let them play with your gorgeous creations. They are so fortunate to have such a creative role model as you.
I adore the little chicken too. Take care!
A beautiful quilt and I do love the squares for quilts. I have not made one like that yet but I think it is on my long list of things to make. I love your blog Helen, your flowers are always so pretty and go so well with your beautiful creations and photos!!
Such a pretty quilt, Helen, and I love seeing Daisy whirling with it :-) xx
Hello Helen,
What a wonderful summer quilt! Daisy will love it so, and it will be treasured years on. I especially love that little lemon slice, such a perfect touch!
Happy day, and sunny greetings from Finland!
Yours,
Mia
Beautiful quilt, and what a lovely use for it Daisy has found!
Super pretty!!! xo
How wide did you cut your binding strips? Also what type of batting? Did you use strip sets to assemble and make the rows? It's a gorgeous quilt!
Thank you so much, Helen, for sharing this with us. Six years later and still warming our hearts! I have made various patterns and styles of quilts, but this is definitely a favourite! I refer to them as "grandmothers'quilts" big beautiful blocks with no borders. Love your use of text fabrics and your added touches.

I love your quilt ❤ it is beautiful!!
What size are your squares?
Thanks!!
This quilt is lovely! My daughter-in-law would like me to make her daughter one like this. Can you share the dimensios and how large the finished squares are? Thanks much!
