October Houses

Some little stuffed fabric houses, made from scraps....such a satisfying way to de stash the scrap basket....and if i was to choose a colour of this week this bright yellow would be it....closely followed by orange........although the skies have been a leaden grey some of  the leaves have been so vivid against it and they seem to look even brighter in contrast on a dull day than on a fine one.........
...........these little october houses are part of my autumn home decoration this year.........
..........i love the text fabric on the roof of this one........the text-ed blocks appearing in these photos were all made for me by lovely fee at chipper nelly........... the tags are some i made for a project a while ago, and i love to mix one project in with another for something new..............i'm also loving this white pumpkin...i'll be sorry when i have to stop taking pictures of it :)
...........it has been such a busy week, with work projects to finish for deadlines, and at the weekend my daughter and son in law are holding a big birthday party for charlie (five years old and with lots of new school friends) so there has been lots of crafting and baking going on with plans for games and activities for the children to enjoy.......including a pumpkin treasure hunt, ghost bowling, decorate your own halloween biscuits........and many others too :) ...............
........tomorrow i shall be carving a big pumpkin and icing a LoT of  halloweenie (daisy's new word for the occasion) cupcakes.........my daughter has worked so hard  preparing lots of things and my younger daughter is coming home for the weekend too so it will be fun...........
..............i am still bringing some garden snippets in to brighten up the house.....we have masses of berries in the garden this year, many more it seems on some of the shrubs than usual, though the ones on the rowan tree have all disappeared now, eaten by the hungry birds..........
...........because i was busy making new projects this week guess what?....i have messed up my tidy fabric cupboard and there is a lot of fabric strewn around in my sewing room again now :)........i've also put the first few stitches into my farmer's wife quilt so will show you that  next time...........after i've finished the halloween party things...........and met the design deadlines........and knitted this tiny little jumper in a pumpkin shade....
................one cake ready.............four dozen more to go................
.......thank you for your sweet comments and emails recently and a big warm welcome to my new followers, it's always delightful to have your visits...........wishing you a wonderful weekend and (if you are celebrating it) a very happy halloween :)...........back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

OMGosh!!!! Halloween is my favorite and Fall in all it's glory and if you haven't done it up just the cutest! LOVE the houses....I have to make some of those...too cute...at first I thought they were pencils...LOL! I better go get my eyes checked.
What a great time to have a birthday and 5 years old....how wonderful. Now, how did you do that frosting with the perfect edge on those cupcakes????? Is it marzipan or what? They are absolutely gruesomely gorgeous...I can't frost anything worth a darn....another item for my "to be mastered" list! Ha! Ha!
Is there anything you cannot do? How can one person be SO talented and gifted and another (moi) be so lacking....but I am good in math and science...does that count? LOL! I want to come back as you in my next life. Any time I need a dose of inspiration I sure know where to come!
I understand completely about "messing up" but you know...I have friends who's kitchens always look perfect too and even their cupboards and guess what? It's because they never use them!!! So, here's a toast to creative messes....may they lead to even more creativity. So good to visit you again. Have a wonderful Halloween and birthday party and family get-together!
HUGS!

Helen, thank you for your visit and comment. I think that your take on Halloween houses is more to my personal taste than that extravagantly decorated brownstone in my neighborhood.

Still, isn't it fun to have a variety of ways to celebrate a holiday. Our rather over the top NYC versions are very far from more spiritually connected versions around the world.

I do love those little white pumpkins and think I will be buying one (and maybe also a mini orange version or two) during my next visit to the farmers market.

I just found your blog and the timing is perfect. I've been looking for ideas to use up some scraps of fabric - plus I LOVE little 'house' decorations (I had the most wonderful dollhouse growing up). These pillow are adorable. What a great idea.

I'll be popping in to read again!

Hi Helen..I am overcome with the 'wanting disease' when I look at these cute little houses. I think God knew what he was doing when he made leaves turn orange/red and gold in autumn when there is a gorgeous backdrop of stormy cloud in grey! Have a wonderful week.

Enjoy the lovely weekend which is coming your way.

Happy 'Halloweenie' Helen! I adore your October houses and think I should maybe have a go at making something similar with scraps of fabric. I too noticed the vibrancy of the leaves against the grey october sky. Have a fun party weekend! I am still loving the white cinderella pumpkin!!! x

I absolutely love and adore houses with turrets! Always wanted to live in one, and imagine the turret area being a library or a private place just for mois! How romantic would that be ... not very practical, but romantic would work for me! Just love the Fall colours and the white pumpkin, a perfect 'prop' for the scene!
Your posts are always so inspiring, and give me the courage to try new things.
I must mention a post of a few weeks ago, in which you displayed all your gorgeous fabrics in piles!
I wonder if it is illegal to covet your neighbors fabric!
Hugs,
Patricia

Love the houses and what a fun time you must have had with Charlie and your family. How do you get such perfect frosting on your cupcakes? Is it marzipan that you cut out in that shape? Darling! I'm thinking maybe hanging out here at your blog that a little of your creativity is starting to tub off...just a little! LOL!
