Cups, Saucers and Quilts

I have been having a lovely time recently rediscovering lots of my favourite old china pieces while sorting out cupboards and de cluttering...........seeing some of these pretty vintage patterns reminded me of the tilda fabrics i've been working with..........
...............and i enjoyed taking photos of them together......
............the quilt blocks in the background here are from my scrappy nine patch blocks.....
..............and most of the china was either given to me as a gift from family and friends, or inherited from loved ones......so they have lots of memories attached to them......some were thrifted too....
..............it is always nice to rediscover pretty things at the back of a cupboard and i hope to find a better way to display these treasures............
.............a pretty plate below...........i used to design patterns for china as the training i had at college was for all surface pattern though mainly textiles......i was happy to design for any product when i was making my way as a freelance designer and have done lots of different things over the years (none of the ones shown here though!!)............
..............love that pretty teal blue plate with the tilda fabric.....
............the quilt here is a real pleasure to slowly piece together......
................i am sewing the nine patch blocks together by hand...perfect for movie watching sewing.....
............and then later i join the plain white squares and the nine patch blocks into rows by machine....
...........to produce this...............a scrappy irish chain quilt looking fresh and summery....
............just loving making this, along with lots of other projects too........am feeling very inspired and energised at the moment :)............the intense heat has gone for now and we've had cooler, rainy and fresher weather....i hope the sunshine comes back soon though :).............
................thank you for visiting me here dear readers and for your very kind comments......i will be taking a little blog and facebook break next week (but you can still find me on instagram) but will be back as usual the following week......wishing you all a happy time in the meantime....enjoy your sunny summer days and your crafty inspirations.......back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh the cups and saucers go so well with the Tilda Fabrics! So pretty! I have so many teacups and saucers... many that were given to me as a child by my Godmothers.. and some were my mom's and aunt's... and t hey had been stored in a plastic TUB for years! I finally got them out at this house we're in now... and they are prettily displayed on my cup shelf (also was my mom's) in our pink bedroom. Most of the cups and saucers have pink in them it seems.. although there are a few other very gorgeous ones of other colors. I love them all and am so happy to see them now every day! Love your quilt.. what kind of white fabric do you use??? It looks so crisp and clean! xoxoo Marilyn

Love your pretty collection of porcelain tea cups, Helen. And the quilt is quite wonderful. I'll also be spotty on my blogging for a few weeks as I'm flying out to Ohio tomorrow to see my girls. And they're getting a new puppy while I'm there! We're all very excited! Have a good break. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I love the pop of the scrappy colours against white. A great way to use up the smallest of your favourite pieces.

Such delightful crockery Helen. Dotty's only uses vintage crocs and I think it makes the tea taste even better..especially with real tea leaves and a strainer. Your quilt is gorgeous. The sun returned here today and it's getting hotter...again! Keep cool, hugs xxx

Helen,
Oh, what a beautiful mix of china and fabrics! I am trying to find a favorite cup and saucer, but each and every one is prettier than the next. I love how your Irish chain quilt is coming along, so fresh and crisp with the white background fabric.
I have an Irish chain quilt top very similar to yours with tiny floral prints alternating with solid white squares. It is waiting for me to quilt it for our youngest daughter. That is on my to do list along with another one for her oldest son, which I finished piecing today.
Our rainy weather has been great for our gardens as well as for staying indoors catching up on sewing and reading.
Thank you for sharing as always!

How pretty your teacups are with your fabrics. The teal plate is such a lovely colour. I have a small collection of teacups, too. I think tea tastes best when brewed in a bone china teapot and served in china teacups. Enjoy your break away. I`m glad things have cooled off a little for you - the heat must have been oppressive.

Pretty cups
I found a box in the pantry...packed away dishes. Back into the cabinet they are. :)
