This is where i was all last week.....staying in sunny st ives in cornwall....(a place filled with cherished childhood memories for me and my sisters as our family came to devon and cornwall every summer from when we were tots)............thanks to my mister p for the above image :)........
.............counting the waves on porthmeor beach, st ives............
................the famous sloop inn dating from the 14th century.......there was live music outside here on the wharf (the st ives festival was on and there was art, music, theatre and poetry to be found everywhere)..............
.................little harbour cottages...and if you walk up behind the sloop inn there is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and fishermen's cottages in the old heart of st ives known as *downlong*..........there are lots of galleries, exhibitions and cafes......lovely coffee too to take out and sip while relaxing on the wharf in the sunshine......
.............the rocks all along the rugged cornish coastline make for the most spectacular sea views.....
.............here is molly enjoying the trip....she was so good all the time even on the seven hour car journey there and back again.............
..............there are four beautiful beaches at st ives, some perfect for surfing, some for sitting, some for fishing........it is still a working harbour and this is smeaton's pier built in 1767 enclosing the harbour beach where fishing boats are moored.......
................just outside the town, on the moorland landscapes are many ruined tin mines.........
..............here are a couple of pictures especially for everyone who loves the poldark series ;)......
...........talking to my father recently about our imminent trip back to cornwall, he said he remembers me drawing in the streets of st ives when i was an art student and it made me recall the little black sketch books i worked in at the time, filled with line drawings of tiny cottages and lots of blue and white watercolour thumbnail sketches of the sea and sky..............
.............this time i began making a picture with fabric........the start of a st ives quilt......
.............most of the time we were out and about, exploring and enjoying the warm september sunshine but i just had to do a little bit of crafting in the evenings........
.............i have more pictures of our trip to show you but will save them for another time.......leaving you with this splashing waves picture, one of my favourite sights of all...........
....thank you for dropping in to see me here dear readers and for your kind comments........wishing you a happy week ahead enjoying the new feeling of autumn in the air (or spring if you are on the other side of the world) and lots of happy crafty times..............back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Is the little needlecraft still there down near the harbour? I visited there about 4 years ago. It is so lovely in Cornwall and I hope to revisit soon. I'm glad you enjoyed it too.

St Ives is definitely on my list of places I would like to visit. The light must be incredibly beautiful, and the sea has a power to contemplate for a long time, too.
Molly is now officially a sea dog! How fortunate for you all that she is also a good car passenger.
The St Ives houses make wonderful subjects, for drawing, painting, or quilt-making.
I'm already looking forward to seeing more photographs from your Cornish break. xo
Loved all your pictures and the history behind them. Your little Molly reminds me of our two Bischon's that we had. Super companion dogs!

Yippee a St Ives quilt! It looks beautiful as Molly is adorable.
Seeing your photos of St. Ives made me feel very happy. I will probably never get to visit there and so I appreciate your sharing it with me. I read some historic novels set in England so it's neat to be able to match the places in the books with the real seaside settings. I'm going to love this St. Ives quilt! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
Thank you for sharing your lovely photos of your vacation town. I would dearly love to go there and someday (if I can get hubby to agreea0 I will! Have a great week!
Just lovely x
Welcome honey Helen, looks so fabulous. You take such wonderful photos. Have a lovely day
So much character. I just love places like that. So sweet that little Molly got to enjoy it, too. Crafting is always necessary, even while traveling. I love the start of your St. Ives quilt. We had a leak in our attic space where boxes were stored so I had to throw out my sketchbook that I had saved since middle school. :(
Lovely evocative seaside lit photos. Molly is so sweet. Your coastal quilt is going to be a delight. XXX
Such beautiful photos. spring is trying very hard to spring over here.... Looking forward to your St Ives quilt !!
Beautiful seaside photos. I wasn't aware that St. Ives was an actual place - what popped into my mind was "As I was going to St. Ives, I met a man with 7 wives." Weird.
It's a lovely place! love all photos! and I love too these fishes mades with fabric! I hope you've a nice day, dear Helen! a big hug and kisses from Catalonia!
Blissful places to visit! How I would love to be in Cornwall one day...I keep dreaming... The hues of blue of your quilt are magnificent Helen!
Happy October!
Olympia
I love Cornish blue. I had one little blue and white striped bowl and friend from Cornwall brought to me, but sadly, it broke.
