Sew British

If ever there was a time to be sewing with patriotic british fabrics then it would be now as we begin the Queens's Diamond Jubilee celebrations ..............my little town is festooned with bunting and so is my house and even the potting shed......i made these little pincushions as special jubilee souvenirs............
.                                ..........the fabric is from the cool britannia range by benartex.............
...........they work really well together or alone, or mixed in with other reds, whites and blues........
.........i love the turquoise blue which gives a fresh feel to the colourway...........
....and i love the printed map fabric, which shows some of the places i know and have stayed in when visiting london............a cute little piece of ribbon makes a tag......
....here are some more guardsmen, on my jubilee cakes this time,  in the pound note cupcake cases, baked ready for tomorrow's street party....we have bunting and brollies at the ready as the weather is grey and rainy and oh so british today and worse is forecast for tomorrow but it will not put us off..............
..........the guardsman cake topper is my favourite from the set below, though the golden carriages look rather good too, and all together they make a quirky little collection on the plate...more pictures soon......
.....the little corgis here came from granny's attic (perfect timing).....they are probably fairground ornaments and the paint is chipping off but they have a real corgi character ....my mother in law kept corgis too, like the Queen but only one at a time :)........the red tulips wrapped in red white and blue were a  nice surprise from mr p......
......one more thing i sewed with the cool britannia fabric was this little corsage.....i am planning to wear it to the jubilee party tomorrow....probably on my raincoat :).........thank you for dropping in to see me here in my little bit of blogland......i wish you all a happy weekend and if you are in the uk and joining in with the jubilee celebrations  have a wonderful time................back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The little guardsmen are especially cute. :)
There are some beautiful patriotic fabrics available at the moment, aren't there! Your little cushions will be a lovely keepsake.
I hope the rain stays away for your street party, we have lots of sunshine here this morning, sending some your way!

Super makes Helen.

Sadly I feel as if the Jubilee is passing me by a bit as Ive had 17 hour days working over the past few days - only 12 hours a day for the preceeding weeks....

But seeing this has inspired me to try to save the day by rustling up a few last minute bits... will have to see how it goes!!

Have a wonderful weekend, whatever the weather brings!

Hello, been reading your blog for a while but haven't commented. I love the Cool Brittania fabric. I'm a born and bred Londoner, although I no longer live there and my dad drove a bus and then a taxi so that fabric speaks to me!
Lovely makes and I enjoy reading your blog.
Enjoy your weekend!

We've had a very dusty and blustery day around here. Your little pincushions with the British fabrics are so sweet. And those little corgi figurines adorable. I love corgis. The dog I had from the time I was 2 until I was 17 had a bit of corgi in her. Her name was Toni and she was the best friend ever. Boy did I love that dog! Best wishes to you, Tammy

Hi Helen, how lovely everything is! I love the little cakes with the guards in. I have been reading my daughter a Dick King Smith book about the Queen's Corgi's, and she has gone Corgi mad. She was thrilled when she saw them made of flowers at the Chelsea Flower Show. Your little corsage is a really sweet idea too. Enjoy all the Jubilee celebrations, love Linda x

All your things are SO lovely and I SO wish i cold be there to celebrate. I don't have cable t.v. so I can't even get it on the telly. It really makes me mad as this is BIG! Oh well, I guess I'll just have to go online shopping for Diamond Jubilee fabric. A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do! LOL! Have a wonderful celebration and congratulations to all of you and of course The Queen!

What lovely preparations for the Jubilee. I love the gorgeous fabrics and the creative way you've used them.

I am so sorry you had such awful weather for your party but, having seen the enthusiasm with which the choir sang to her Majesty in the steady downpour yesterday I am now sure nothing could dampened the hearty spirits of anybody at a Jubilee celebration. We are going to one tomorrow come rain or shine :-)

The little corgis are gorgeous. Imagine, they have been waiting in grannie's attic for the exact time to make an appearance....perfick!!
