Home and Garden

Happy October to all my lovely blog friends.......hoping it is a good month for you all....here is a little collage of my september pictures....such a lovely month with lots of crafty, cosy home and sunny garden times....
..........i was taking a picture of this new shabby chic little shutter mirror to show my daughter and caught this view of the sitting room with the quilt cupboard and a bit of my heartstrings quilt too....
.............and here's another quilt from a while ago.....taken in the garden and giving a sneak peek of our soon to be cottage garden with its white picket fence made for me by kind mr p.... the things we do for love ;) xxx.....
............the fence isn't finished yet but i planted a few things anyway.....
......the layout followed the one that was already there, with a small ornamental tree in a centre circle surrounded by four flowerbeds separated by small grass paths...we are going to change to gravel paths and i've dug out all the old plants and woody roots ready to fill the beds with cottage garden flowers (let me know if you have any favourites or suggestions!)..........
 .............here is a finished corner...........
...........and a big pot of lobelia..........in spring there will be bright tulips growing here (hopefully!)...
.............i am enjoying reading the garden catalogues for autumn planting and have taken a lot of cuttings to grow in the greenhouse.....a friend gave me some physalis or groundcherry plants she'd grown  and this morning she dropped off some of the fruits from her own plant for me to try...so pretty......
..............choosing cosy cushions and quilts for the new season......
..............and of course busy crafting as usual...i love it as you know......and i love finishing things like this little daisy dot pincushion made from a spare block....
.............the carousel quilt below is a pleasure to make (from the everyday quilts pattern).....it has pretty borders one of which has yo yos appliqued on to it so i've been making a few of those.....
..............and now october is here there will be more pumpkins of course......
............thank you for your visits dear readers and your kind comments......wishing you all happy autumn (or spring) days and lots of crafty inspirations................back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Your pretty picket fence really makes a focal point.
Can't wait to see what you plant there next year.
Your quilts are always stunning especially photographed outside.
It certainly time to make more pumpkins to add to the collection.
Happy October Helen.

Hello Helen. I hope you plant some foxgloves in your cottage garden, they are my favourite.
Thank you for your lovely blog, I enjoy your posts so much and they always brighten my day.
Best wishes from Australia where we are finally getting some spring sunshine!

I hope you plant plenty of Cosmos in parts of your cottage garden, Helen. I had a wonderful patch of it when we lived in upstate NY, and for some reason, it prompted me to feel joy each time I looked at it. Mr. P has done a wonderful job with the fence thus far and it will be a delight to see all the flowers that are hugged by it. Thanks for another inspiring post...I so admire all the stitching you complete! Happy October to you and yours as well! xx

Ohhh.. what a wonderful husband you have! I adore the picket fence around your cottage garden to be! I look forward to seeing how it looks after you've got it all planted and growing this next Spring and Summer. You really have a fairy tale life, Helen. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

I thought those fruits look familiar. We call them Cape gooseberries here in NZ. The picket fence looks darling. I can't wait till it is all planted out. Perfect!

Lovely post and pictures again, Helen :)! Love all your pretty flowers and wonderful crafts. Those pillows especially look so cozy - the patchwork on them just 'speaks' of home. Enjoy your beautiful Fall season. We are enjoying our coloured leaves and rain - yes, rain :) - we transplanted two good sized spruce trees, and are so thankful, that we are getting lovely soaking rain for them.

Everyone needs a white picket fence! Yours is lovely... and I agree, Foxgloves are a must! We had a huge hillside of them when we lived in SW Washington state, but now in central Oregon, they don't seem to want to grow. Too hot and dry here I think. I love Lupine too. Every quilt needs a white picket fence to lay upon............ love your cheery colors of reds and deep pinks.. they really make me smile. Your posts just make me pure happy! Fall is appearing here too and I'm loving the changing of the leaves..... hugs to you for a good week. Marilyn

Helen,
Such a happy cheerful post full of lovely flowers and quilts. I love the way your carousel quilt is coming along. I'm looking forward to seeing what plants you choose for your new cottage garden. I always love cosmos and delphinium, and of course lavender. The picket fence will be the perfect backdrop for all your plantings.
Thank you for sharing.
