Hexagons, Flowers and Treacle Market

This week i have made a lot of paper pieced hexagons..............one of my favourite shapes to sew and piece...........i am making the classic grandmother's flower garden flowers this time......
............and i plan to applique them all onto a plain fabric background so there will be no need to make all those joining hexagons this time ;)..........
.............these are quite small and very quick to make...also portable to take on trips......
...........i did fussy cut a few but most are just snipped randomly and sewn together.....
..............i am using a big mix of different fabrics but keeping to a similar range of colours.......
.............this is such a good way to use up pretty little scraps of favourite fabrics too...........
.............speaking of trips we went on a lovely visit to my younger daughter and son in law's home this weekend....so good to spend some time with them and to see our dear littlest grandson x......the picture below is of their stylish kitchen.......love those shelves.........
................we had an outing to treacle market in nearby macclesfield.........
............i had been wanting to go there for a long time and luckily this visit coincided with the last sunday in the month when the market is always held.......
..............it takes place in the cobbled marketplace and nearby streets and has 150 stalls of crafts, vintage finds, food and drink and of course flowers......can you see the trays of bellis daisies at the front of the picture above?......one of them came home with me.......
..........we all found a treat or two (even my mr p!)........and there were all kinds of interesting things to browse amongst..............i found some tiny vintage jelly moulds, a printer's tray, a vintage printed flour bag and of course my bellis flowers..........all of which i will photograph soon...........
..............the weather was very cold so there were not so many people there this time as there sometimes are apparently.......i look forward to going back again soon...............
.............thank you for dropping in here to see me dear readers..........thank you for all your lovely comments too............wishing you a happy crafty week ahead.................back soon xxxxxxxxxxx

  5. Helen, I clicked over to the treacle market's website and saw even more pictures and even a video of what looks like a great place to visit (particularly in warm weather...just like our markets over here.)

That hexy patchwork is sending me more temptation. Thank you for keeping that wavelength alive.

I've almost finished my striped socks, and have done a bit of lunar new year card painting over the weekend, along with a long walk in Central Park...and, also keeping an eye of news developments that are less cheery.

  11. Helen, your visit to your daughter and this adorable place sounds wonderful! I'm sure there are so many beautiful things to pick! Your finds sound fun! I admire always your sweet fabrics and cute projects! Everyday I want to sew by hand and I know I shouldn't put time for that now. At the moment I'm cleaning my sewing room - boring but always find some forgotten/lost things! Have a lovely week! x Teje

  16. Your hexagons are looking great. I have always wanted to try paper-pieced sewing. I think it makes such a neat effect. The market looks lovely, I wish we had something like that here. Nice to see those bulbs growing already, spring is just around the corner. :)

  18. How beautiful! I had to google bellis daisies because I'd never heard of them. Evidently, they aren't grown in the New World. :) I love, love, love daisies so am sad to learn that this is one I won't be trying. Your markets are always filled with such attractive displays! Who could possibly have the strength to come away empty-handed? Your hexies are so pretty and make me want to pull out fabrics and make some. But I'm going to be strong and resist that urge and stick to my current project, the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt. Did you finish yours? I'd love to see a finished photo! Hope you have a week as nice as your posts make me feel. :)

  27. Lovely stitching and shopping and visiting with your loved ones, Helen. Thanks for letting us see some of the beauty and creativity around you. We are told to expect a bit more wintery weather mid week here and I got a call this morning telling me of my brother-in-law's passing this morning, and yesterday would have been my husband's 72nd birthday...then the conflict about what is good and bad in our world leaves me feeling wounded and weary. Your post is a sweet encouragement to me. Thanks. xxxxxxxxxx

  30. My favourite hand piecing shape too.
I have little plastic baskets with so fa, 2 sizes of hexagons in, ready to piece together when the urge to sit quietly and stitch comes upon me!
Next hexies are going to be about 6-8 inches wide, to make it a quicker make hopefully!

  34. We do have Bellis Daisies in the New World. They were my grandmother's favourite flowers, my mother tells me. She passed away before I was born, but I think of her in the spring when they bloom here.

  38. Dear Helen, looking forward to seeing what you will do with your hexxie flowers. I have at long last started a quilt and mine is grandmother's flower garden too. I haven't done any for a while mind you, but it is enjoyable just stitching a little at a time. The 'Treacle Market' sounds great and I love the name! Love the white jugs with milk written on them. Glad you had a lovely time at your daughter's. Much love, Linda xx
