Cosy Crafting

It is nicely autumnal here today, not too chilly and with a little sunlight filtering through the grey clouds now and then.....a very atmospheric day............we have been busy outdoors over the weekend, gardening and walking in the colourful woods...........as always i have been collecting natural finds for my seasonal decorations...............
                                              .............fir cones, berries and leaves............
..............i have been getting the extra quilts out ready for the chillier weather...........
...........and making more wrist warmers......... just love making them...so easy and so quick :)........
.........someone asked me which pattern i used for them but i didn't have a pattern.....simply made a  chain of 34 (measured round my wrist) and then worked 15cm in double crochet and random stripes......then repeated this for the second wristie.........sewed up the seam with the yarn ends from the stripes so it was nice and neat.........
.............i have made a few pairs now and will give some to my daughters............
..........the touch of orange in this pair is unusual for me and right for autumn i think......
.............cross stitch cherries for a cosy kitchen pot holder is my project in this month's crafts beautiful magazine...........ideal for a festive gift.........or to keep to brighten up a kitchen corner....you can find out more on the crafts beautiful website here...........
..........the cookery and baking books are out now as i plan some new tasty treats.......
.............and some nice bright dahlias are gracing the sewing room with their gorgeous petals.....
..............i have been hand quilting my rosy churndash quilt.....it is fairly quick to sew as it is only a small one which i plan to hang on my sewing room wall when it is finished.........
............there are lots of other things i want to make too....i have a big list....it is always like this in the autumn, with christmas on the horizon and that feeling of cosy homeliness settling in.......
..........thank you for visiting me here, dear readers, and for your kind comments which i so love to read..........i hope you are all enjoying a wonderful cosy crafty week wherever you may be......back soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxoooooooooooooooooxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  4. I can so relate -- my head spins in the autumn with project ideas. Maybe it's just nature's way of being sure we have projects to carry us through those long winters? Beautiful colors and inspiration, as always!

  15. Thank you, Helen, for another cheerful and colorful post. :) I love your Cosy Kitchen Potholder. I have most of those fabrics too. I sure wish I could find Crafts Beautiful magazine here in the States. I'm loving our cooler and breezy (yet still warm) Autumn days here in California USA. The change is more subtle but it's noticeable. I love Autumn. :)

  26. Helen, perhaps like you, I do not always include orange in my favorite color combinations, but there really is something different about that color at this time of the year.

The autumn light is very different (and increasingly rare each day) and the turning leaves and pumpkins give us more color hints than those carrots we can see year round.

Anyhow, I love the way in which you've inserted lovely bits of orange into what you've been making. Great to see that slight color edge enter into these photographs!

  30. The fir cones, berries and leaves are beautiful finds and beautifully arranged, Helen. I have yet to make wrist warmers, but your pretty ones make me want to make some. But I especially want to make your cherry design for my youngest daughter who is always on the lookout for cherry themed materials. Sigh.... Now for better time management on my part to make it possible ! Thanks for the inspiration :) xx

  38. Oh Helen, reading your posts are like reading a good book you do not want to end! Yes here in Illinois I have also been getting out the extra quilts. How I love your red and white one. It is so soft and cozy looking. I bet it has been loved a lot. I do not crochet but I knit. Wrist warmers would be wonderful for the grandchildren. I always asked my MIL to make them longer so they could tuck in their coat. I love cherries, thank you for your inspiration.
