If you read my blog regularly you probably already know that i like making patchworks using squares...and i am happy to say that my latest one, the flower patch quilt, has just been finished..........i showed you some of it a few days ago but now here it is all done..........
...........i sewed on the binding at the weekend........always a nice job to do, that last bit of slip stitching at the end when the binding is neatly closed over the quilt edge.....you finish off the stitching, snip off the thread....and suddenly you have a finished quilt......
.........here is the quilt fresh from the drier, with that crinkly look so many quilters (including me) love......
.....i love both the crumply washed quilted look and the smooth patchwork effect, like in the pincushion below...
...i made this flowery pincushion especially for fee as one of our swaps......in return i received some really gorgeous blocks.........find fee and her chipper nelly blocks
here...........
....these sweet blocks have been looking so pretty and colourful mixed in with the fabrics around my studio.....i still have lots of squares left over from my quilt, so i think a patchwork cushion will be next........
.....and here is a (mainly) square pieced block from the farmer's wife quilt book.....this one is called checkerboard and i love it.....above on point and below a straight square block.....the book pieces the quilt blocks together on point and i think i probably will too, but that's quite a way off yet ;)......

That quilt is so pretty - such lovely colours! It looks all snuggly with the washed crinkly look! I love the pincushion too - gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is lovely and as you say especially when its crinkly - I haven't tried hand-quilting yet but this definitely inspires me to have a go! Also in awe of your block ... I find it very challenging to get everything matching up accurately and this is such a lovely block.

ReplyDeleteAs I near the end of stitching down the binding, I find myself going a bit faster, always checking how much is left to go. Tying that last knot before throwing it in the wash is a great moment! Your quilt is beautiful, love the colors and the hand stitching.

As ever a wonderful feast for the eyes! what gorgeous colour combinations. They look so cosy and comforting. A quilt is something I would love to do in the future but shy away from it!

I've never made a quilt, would so love to do one but I have a knitting project that just doesn't want to get done, various sewing projects I've earmarked to do but haven't yet found time. I can't see myself making one in a very long time, so I shall have to look at yours instead. It's beautiful!

I love the contrast of the white squares in between the colours and the big blue border really finishes it off - you are making me want to go start making a quilt, hehe (yes I know I have been talking about doing it for months!) The colours in your posts are always so bright and uplifting, really cheer me up on grey dull days. Hope you have sunshine today, it is out here for the first time in ages, horray! Jenny xx

That quilt looks heavenly. I am under the weather today and I so need a nice snuggly quilt here on the red leather sofa where I'm curled up with my knitting. The whippets are piled on too, keeping me warm, but they are sooooo heavy. Guess I'll have to get stitching.
