Last week I mentioned that an unexpected and very cute design project had arrived in my inbox, one which I was delighted to make and began on straight away......it was from the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, that wonderful charity which has been caring for dogs and cats ever since it was established in 1860. Their aim was never to turn away a dog or cat in need, and they also reunite lost dogs and cats with their owners.
As part of Battersea's kennel enrichment plan, the project i was asked to create was a scented doggie bag that pet lovers could make easily, and that could be filled with scented herbs such as lavender to help keep the dogs calm while they wait for new loving homes........
...........i was asked to use a motif of a staffordshire terrier as part of the home's campaign to show the softer side of this breed..........so here are my scented doggie bags........
......it was hard to stop at one so i stitched three.........there are so many combinations of colours and fabric that you could use.....
........here they are packed up and ready to be sent off to Battersea...........

Even if you have never sewn before these little bags are very easy to make.......it's a sweet and easy way to help such a good cause.......

Those little doggie bags are precious. How sweet to fill them with scents that will calm their frightened nerves.

Having previously been a trustee of a canine rescue charity I know how important calming kennelled dogs can be. A hearty well done Helen, this was one very special (and cute!) project x

Helen they're gorgeous, and such a worthwhile charity too. We support them already, plus that's where our two kitties came from - what a fantastic place and such lovely caring people we met too.

ReplyDeleteDear Helen, I just love those doggy bags! I'm so happy your were able to join that important work those people are doing to help the dogs and cats! I'm feeling very sad and hopeless with the situation here in Greece. There are so many homeless dogs and cats so it's just impossible to control the situation. There are some people and places who are doing as much as they can, but it's never enough. 3 of my 4 pets are rescued.

That is a sweet little project for such a wonderful cause. I have street kitties that I care for each and every day. One living in an alcove in my stairwell that has decided this is home. Such a wonderful and rewarding project to be involved in Helen...It is such a struggle for all charities at the moment and this really is a great idea....As a family we are great supporters of many animal charities....I particularly love that you have used the Staffordshire Terrier because it does have a tough time in so many ways, doesn't it?
